Interest in premium maxi-scooters is growing among people in India due to their comfort and strong performance. Two popular options in this segment are the Honda X-ADV and the BMW C 400 GT. These scooters are well-suited for daily city commuting and can also handle longer journeys. This article compares both models to help potential buyers decide which one best meets their needs.

Honda X-ADV Vs BMW C 400 GT: Powertrain

The Honda X-ADV is equipped with a 745cc liquid-cooled SOHC 8-valve parallel-twin engine, delivering 57 horsepower at 6,750 RPM and a peak torque of 69 Nm at 4,750 RPM. Additionally, it comes with a dual-clutch transmission and offers four riding modes.

On the other hand, the BMW C400 GT is equipped with a 350cc, water-cooled, single-cylinder engine that delivers 33.5 bhp and peak torque of 35 Nm, combined with a continuously variable transmission. It offers a single riding mode.The braking duty in the Honda X-ADV is taken care by four-piston calipers in the front and a single-piston caliper at the rear. The front suspension has a special fork that can move down 153.5 mm, and the back has a shock absorber that can move down 150 mm.

In comparison, the BMW C 400 GT gets a Steel-Bridge type frame and a 35 mm front suspension with 109.22 mm of travel. The adjustable rear swing arm offers 111.1 mm of travel, and it features a 1564 mm wheelbase. Braking is supported by 265 mm twin front discs and a single rear disc, along with BMW Motorrad ABS for safety.The Ola Roadster X was launched in the Indian market in February 2025. During its launch, the electric two-wheeler company revealed that bookings for the EV had started, with intentions to commence deliveries shortly. However, these plans faced ongoing delays for reasons that remained unclear. Now, the deliveries of the brand’s first electric motorcycle are underway, and here are five highlights of the new machine.

Ola Roadster X: Powertrain

The Ola Roadster X is offered in two versions, namely the X and X+. The X variant provides three battery pack choices: 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh. On the other hand, the premium X+ variant provides options for a 4.5 kWh battery and a 9.1 kWh battery pack. The smaller battery option is claimed to offer a range of 252 km, whereas the larger battery option claims a range of 501 km on a single charge.

Ola Roadster X: Price

With all these specifications, the Ola Roadster X starts at Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom). In contrast, the Roadster X Plus begins at Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom).

Royal Enfield Bear 650 created a lot of buzz at the time of its launch. A bit of this was carried forward even after the launch of the scrambler. However, some folks believed that the bike was not quiet enough when it came to hardcore off-roading. Resolving all such complaints, the enthusiasts at Barcelona-based Fuel Motorcycles created the Royal Enfield Fuel Fury 650, a custom scrambler using the Bear 650 as a base. What’s even more interesting is, the bike pays tribute to Eddie Mulder, the iconic champion of the 1960 Big Bear Run.

In terms of appearance, the Fuel Fury maintains the modern appeal of the Bear 650 with elements resembling the Fury 500 from the ’60s. Commanding most attention is the dual-LED headlight surrounded by a metallic frame. Additionally, the front fender is now higher, the shape of the single-piece seat is changed, and the tail section is now narrower. All of this is complemented by a bright paint scheme. The side panel of the bike has “Big Bear Run” text on it with “249” number, while the tank has “In Gut We Trust” written on it.

To enhance the off-road aesthetics and add more functionality to the mix, the brand has added elements like an upswept free-flow exhaust, skid plate, handguards, rally pegs, and tank grips to the original tank. The custom-made foam seat is wrapped in waterproof Alcantara with red stitching. There is also a new suspension setup with full adjustability, with gas canisters at the rear end. The combination of 19- and 17-inch wheels has been updated to include 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless cross-spoke wheels, which come equipped with Mitas off-road tyres.

The electrical connections have been repositioned in the front, and a rally-inspired command center is prominently situated in the cockpit, featuring a built-in navigation system equipped with GPS roadbook, odometer, tachometer, speedometer, and rally controls. Additionally, the Fury 650 includes a motogadget unit for crucial data display.At its core, the bike has the same 648 cc parallel-twin engine pushing out 46 hp of power and 56 Nm of peak torque. This powertrain has been employed on other bikes of the brand as well, like the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, and others.

Mahindra & Mahindra has upgraded the sound system of the Thar Roxx sold in the Indian market. The SUV now comes with a 4-channel Dolby Atmos sound, which the brand claims offers immersive audio capabilities. With this, the SUV has become the first-ever to have this technology. It will be featured on the top-end AX7L variant. This is an extension of the collaboration between the automaker and Dolby Laboratories.

The technology in the Mahindra Thar Roxx AX7L brings together a Dolby Atmos system with a 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio setup. Using this tech, the sound can move around the vehicle to create a spatial audio effect. It also gets the Gaana streaming service built into the infotainment system, providing Dolby Atmos-compatible music content.Dolby Atmos technology, which was initially created for use in cinemas, has now extended into areas like home entertainment, gaming, and mobile devices. The incorporation into automobiles shows the company’s attempt to tap into new market segments. This technology generates three-dimensional sound by including height channels alongside conventional surround sound systems. It is worth mentioning that the brand offers Dolby Atmos in its first born electric vehicles, BE6 and XEV 9e, as well.

In addition to this, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is loaded with features such as Level 2 ADAS capabilities, a panoramic sunroof, and a 10.24-inch touchscreen infotainment system, among others. Currently, this SUV starts at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and can go up to Rs 23.09 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. Specifically, it features a 2.0-litre TGDi petrol engine with a 2WD configuration or a 2.2-litre diesel engine with RWD and 4×4 capabilities. These attributes make it an ideal choice for police work. Denis Lvov, PhD — holder of multiple patents in Russia, the US, and the EU — is the creator of a fundamentally new technology called Selective Microwave Melting (SMM). His groundbreaking method of metal 3D printing using microwave breakdown has already been licensed by industrial companies in Russia, the Czech Republic, and Armenia. Lvov himself has taken part in prestigious forums, including FormNext in Frankfurt, Germany, and the 3D Fab+Print Moscow conference.

We spoke with Denis about how he discovered a new method for creating metal components, why microwaves are better than lasers, and how his technologies might one day aid lunar exploration.

Your scientific article “Conceptual Approaches to the Development of Models of Gas Flow Dynamics in Inflated Devices,” published in IRJMETS, explains the use of a microwave field for localized, controlled heating of metal powder. How did the idea of using microwave radiation for metal 3D printing come about?

I was first introduced to 3D printing back in 2008. The first 3D printer I bought used the fused deposition modeling (FDM) method to print plastic layer by layer. I still remember the magical feeling when something tangible began to grow layer by layer from nothing—from the digital void into the real world.

This subject fascinated me, so I began to study computer-aided design (CAD) on my own and started diving into the nuances of 3D synthesis using different materials and methods. What intrigued me the most was metal 3D printing, as it opened up virtually limitless possibilities. My thoughts on how to make metal 3D printing more accessible led me to search for a fast and inexpensive way to heat metal powder precisely where needed.

In discussing your discovery, you mentioned a study you conducted during your postgraduate research, where you explored the possibility of using microwave discharge to generate high-temperature plasma. How did you apply that knowledge in practice?

From my previous scientific work, I knew that microwaves were well-suited as a heat source. Simply put, my research focused on how microwaves could be used to inject energy into plasma—within known limits—to heat it to virtually any temperature, even high enough to initiate thermonuclear fusion. At the time, the research remained at the lab-experiment stage. Later, I decided to apply this knowledge to 3D printing.

Previous studies in this area had shown that magnetron radiation is difficult to focus. That led me to realize that instead of using microwaves themselves as the heat source, I should use microwave breakdown—a specific type of discharge in a microwave field. It is compact and controllable. I immediately tested the idea using improvised materials: a setup made from a tin can, a nail, and a pinch of fine metal shavings was placed inside a kitchen microwave.

When the microwave was turned on, a microwave discharge ignited—just as expected—in the gap between the nail tip and the can. It instantly fused and sintered the shavings into a small metal bead. That simple contraption became the “first prototype” of the microwave 3D printer, and the bead was the first object ever made using the selective microwave melting (SMM) technology.

You showcased your first printer at the world’s leading 3D printing trade fair — FormNext 2019 in Frankfurt am Main — where the device was highly praised by industry experts. Were there any challenges in building the first machine? What took the most time?

Since I built my 3D printer essentially on the mechanical base of an existing, mass-produced powder-based 3D printer, I managed to complete it in a record time of just two and a half months.

The scientific research and experiments, however, took a bit over a year. It was also crucial to file patents for everything that had been developed. After extensive study, discussions with experts, and with the help of a functioning prototype, I was able to prove the viability of the concept.

Today, the technology of selective microwave melting as a method for producing parts from powder has been patented by me in Russia, the EU, Canada, and the United States.
